Vulture Peak
High above the ancient city of Rajgir rises Gijjakuta, or Vulture Peak—a site that holds deep historical and spiritual value. The Buddha often stayed here, and it was on this very mountain that he delivered several important discourses, including the Āṭānāṭiya Sutta. Surrounded by dramatic ridges and quiet caves, the landscape still carries echoes of those gatherings.
Visitors can explore locations such as Ānanda’s cave, the famous Sukarakhata (Boar’s) Cave, and even the spot where Devadatta is said to have turned against the Buddha. With each step along the winding paths, you’re walking through chapters of Buddhist history that shaped the world’s oldest monastic traditions.

බුදුරජුන් ආටානාටිය සූත්රය දේශනා කරන ලද්දේ මේ ස්ථානයේ දීය. කදු වැටියේ ඇල පසුකර යනව්ට දෙව්දත් පෙරලු ගල අදත් දැක ගැනීමට හැකිවේ. බුදුවීමට පෙර ද මෙම ස්ථානයේ හිද ඇත. ඊට ටිකක් ඉහලට ගිය විට ආනන්ද ස්ථවිරයන් වැඩසිටි ආනන්ද ගුහාව හමුවේ. තවත් ඉහලට ගියවිට දකුනු අත පැත්තේ සුකරකත ලෙන දක්නට ඇත. (ඌරන් හෑරූ ලෙන හෙවත් සූකර ලෙන නම් වේ.) සූත්ර ගණනාවක්ම දෙසීමට හේතු කරුණු මෙහිදී සිදු වී ඇත. දිනක් රාත්රියේ සතරවරම් දෙවිවරු මහත්වූ යක්ෂ, නාග, ගන්ධබ්භ, කුම්භාණ්ඩ සේනාවක් පිරිවරා ගිජුකුළු පව්වේ වැඩසිටි බුදුන් හමුවට පැමිණ භික්ෂු භික්ෂුණී, උපාසක උපාසිකා සිවු පිරිසේ ආරක්ෂාව සදහා ආටානාටිය පිරිත උගන්වන ලෙස ඉල්ලමින් වෛශ්රමන මහරජු සූත්රය කියවුවේය. පසුදා උදෑසන බුදුරදුන් භික්ෂූන් වහන්සේලාට දේශනා කල සේක.
