Our Story
The Journey That Became a Legacy
For nearly three decades, our footsteps have followed the sacred paths of history, culture, and spirituality. This is how it all began.
The Legacy Continues
Today, the original vision of Piyal Bharatha Travels continues through P.B. Travels, now run by Piyal Bharatha’s (The Founder) sons, Dilan Jayatilaka in Australia and Dilshan Jayatilaka in Sri Lanka. Together, they’ve built on the strong foundation laid over the decades, offering travellers more ways to explore the world with a sense of belonging and fulfilment.
Their approach stays true to the heart of the original mission: travel, rooted in culture and connection.

The Beginning
Dambadiwa Pilgrimages Since 1995
What started in 1995 as a humble effort to help devotees visit the sacred lands of Dambadiwa has now become a deeply respected spiritual travel tradition. Over the years, more than 146 successful pilgrimages have been organised by us, bringing thousands of travellers closer to the places they’ve always dreamed of seeing.
Our early tours were rooted in a single vision: to make meaningful, well-organised pilgrimages accessible to those searching for connection, clarity, and insight.
Sacred Milestones
Between 2000 and 2012, our journey branched out. For 13 consecutive years, Katina Puja ceremonies were held across well-loved Buddhist sites including Bharanasa, Buddha Gaya, Lumbini, Jethavanaramaya, Kosambi, Sankassa, Madras (Chennai), and Visala Mahanuwara. These sacred gatherings brought communities together and created unforgettable memories for everyone involved.
Additional spiritual events like the Baranes Dharmapala Festival, ordination of monks, Aloka Pujas, grand floral offerings, and the Brahmadatta Raja Perahera were also brought to life during this time.
Expanding the Path
What began with pilgrimages in India gradually grew into something greater. Over the years, the journey expanded into multiple parts of Asia, the Middle East, and even Europe.
Today, tours have extended to:
- Shimla
- Manali
- Egypt
- Thailand
- Myanmar
- Dubai
- Vietnam
Each destination has been chosen specifically for its cultural richness, spiritual depth, and the sense of wonder it evokes in the human mind.
